About Chris Katelaris "Big Chocky"

They call me Australia’s Controversial Coach, and over time I’ve come to understand why that title exists. My name is Chris “Big Chocky” Katelaris. I’ve never lived inside neat boxes and I’ve never tried to.

I was born in Colombia and adopted at two months old by a proud Greek-Cypriot Australian family. Growing up across cultures shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and resilience. But one thing was always certain — my deep respect for Australia and the opportunities this country provides. I was raised by a father who never bowed, bent, or broke under pressure, a man who taught me that standing for what is right often comes with a cost, but it is always worth paying.

My path to where I stand today was not linear. Through my late teens and early twenties, I lost direction. A few years ago, I was overweight, unfit, and deeply dissatisfied with the man I had become. I had reached a point where I was existing rather than living. That period became the defining turning point of my life.

With two young children depending on me, failure was no longer an option. I committed to rebuilding myself completely — physically, mentally, and spiritually. That transformation did more than change my life. It gave me purpose. It led me to dedicate my work to helping others rebuild theirs, and to speaking openly in defence of the country that gave me a second chance.

I founded MAC Coaching to pass forward the lessons earned through lived experience. My work focuses on helping men and women take ownership of their lives through elite training, discipline, and genuine accountability. The philosophy is simple: stop running and start rebuilding. No shortcuts. No excuses. Only measurable progress and real outcomes.

As I began sharing my message publicly, it resonated far beyond coaching. What started as honest conversations and motivational content grew into a national audience. “Big Chocky” became a voice for Australians who felt overlooked or unheard. Controversy was never the goal, but honesty has always been non-negotiable. If speaking directly earns labels, I accept them.

Directness is not universally welcomed. I have been called many things by people who have never taken the time to understand me. The reality is simple. I am the product of a multicultural background and a country that gave me opportunity. What I stand against is entitlement, complacency, and the erosion of standards. I believe in accountability, personal responsibility, and respect for the country you choose to call home.

Today, I am first and foremost a father of two and a devoted husband. Beyond everything else, I am an Australian who believes this country is worth fighting for — culturally, socially, and morally. My journey took me from a young man searching for identity to a man driven by purpose.

And this is only the beginning.
